Goal Setting to Start 2023 Right

Here we are at the beginning of 2023 and for most, this time of year is about setting goals and intentions for one’s life. We’ve all heard the old saying "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail” and while there is much truth in that saying, planning requires more than just stating your goals. Opening up the year with clarity on what it is you are committed to achieving is one component of the equation. The other is mapping out the way in which you are going to tackle that goal you have just committed to achieving. To guide you as you venture into 2023, I am going to give you 3 simple steps to creating the roadmap for achieving your New Year’s goals.

BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF

Is what you are stating that you want to accomplish in 2023 in your realm of possibility? Look at why you have been unable to achieve it prior to this year. What is the realistic timeline you have given yourself to make this happen? Put down the facts and the timeline to completion. Look at it to determine what needs to be accomplished and when it needs to be accomplished to reach that original commitment date of your goal.

FIND ACCOUNTABILITY

It is one thing to simply think and write down your goals, but it is another to be vulnerable and share them with someone who is committed to checking in with you to make sure you are on track to achieve them. For myself, this would be my life coach or husband. It truly creates accountability when you verbally share your desired goals and the plan of action you have in place to achieve them and allow someone to get in alignment with your vision.

CHECK-IN & CELEBRATE

I watched so many people arrive in December only to find they didn’t even get close to their desired outcome for 2022. If you really want true change and positive results, set up "check-in" dates throughout the year to review your original 2023 Goals list and see if you are where you are supposed to be in hitting those goals. Celebrate the wins and look at them often enough to give you time to recalibrate or get back on track. I recommend doing something like this every three months to ensure success all year long.

I recommend you take a couple of days and truly complete 2022. Take the time to create your 2023 in such a way that not only leaves you with zero regrets for the year prior but gives you sheer excitement for the year ahead.
